SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Anne Bennett Scholarship

Ten scholarships will be awarded in the name of Anne Bennett, long-time employee of Southern Wine & Spirits and respected woman pioneer in the industry.  These Scholarships have been established to provide financial support to female students focusing on food and beverage management in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. Undergraduate degree-seeking majors in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management with junior or senior standing; or degree-seeking graduate students.

  2. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 = A scale).

  3. All applicants must submit the following documents as part of the application process:

  1. One page essay on why the applicant selected the hospitality industry as a career (must be typed/double spaced).

  2. Recommendation from a faculty member or employer.

  3. Current resume.

Selection Procedure

These Scholarships will be awarded for a period of ten terms, to a student selected by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Scholarship Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will be comprised of members of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management's administration and faculty, and a Southern Wine & Spirits representative will be invited to participate as a voting member of the Selection Committee.

Applications will be reviewed by the School each spring and an award may be made for the following summer term and or fall term. Applications will be reviewed each fall and an award may be made the following spring. The School may make replacement awards at any time during the academic year if any recipient does not enroll, fails to meet the criteria listed above, or is otherwise unable to accept the award.

Select SWS representatives will have access to review the applications of all students who are eligible for these Scholarships.

If an appropriate candidate is not identified by the published deadline, the scholarship will be re-advertised and will be awarded at the earliest possible date when a candidate is identified.

Amount of Awards

Awards in the amount of $1,000 each will be made from the balance of this gift amount remaining in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management General Scholarship Operating Fund.
