HFTP SAL SPANO SCHOLARSHIP

The Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals have endowed the HFTP Sal Spano Scholarship to recognize and thank Mr. Spano for nearly thirty years of commitment and service as a member of the association and as an important professional liaison and community partner with the FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Objectives of the Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals: The HFTP is an industry association dedicated to enhancing the professional image, knowledge and skills of its members while connecting them with valuable industry tools and resources.

Scholarship and Selection Criteria
Eligibility and selection criteria for the HFTP Sal Spano Scholarship will be:

  1. Undergraduate degree seeking majors in the FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management with junior or senior standing; or degree seeking graduates;

  2. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 = A scale).

  3. All applicants must submit the following documents as part of the application process:
    a) Recommendation from a faculty member or employer; and
    b) Current resume.

  4. Scholarship applicants should be citizens of the United States.

  5. Current scholarship recipients may reapply.

  6. Scholarship applicants do not have to demonstrate financial need.

  7. The HFTP Sal Spano Scholarship will be awarded each year to a student selected by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Scholarship Selection Committee.

  8. Applicants will be reviewed by the School each spring and awards will be made for the following fall. The School may make replacement awards at any time during the academic year if any recipient does not enroll, fails to meet the criteria listed above, or is otherwise unable to accept the award.

  9. If an appropriate candidate is not identified by the published deadline, the scholarship will be re-advertised and will be awarded at the earliest possible date when a candidate is found.
