Introductory Management Accounting for the Hospitality Industry
Introduction and practice in accounting processes and the principles of hospitality management accounting. Prepare the student for work in advanced accounting and financial management.
HFT 4474
Profit Planning and Decision Making in the Hospitality Industry
Instructs students in the use of the various tools and techniques that are available for optimizing performance in working capital management, financial management, operating management and investment management. Students learn to use these tools through practice exercises. Budgeting, variance analysis, standard price/cost analysis, the impact of direct vs. indirect costs on decision making, cost-volume-profit analysis and rate of return calculations are covered in this course.
Biography
Pablo Simón is Professor of Managerial and Financial Accounting in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management of FIU, where he has been a member of the faculty as a part-time adjunct instructor since January 2008. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. He has a Masters in Science in Management from Florida International University, a Master in Public Accounting, and a Master in Arts from the University of Miami. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has over ten years of experience in teaching accounting at the University of Miami, Miami Dade College and other colleges including online college accounting courses. He worked as an external and internal auditor for many years and has been a Fiscal Manager at the University of Miami for over 20 years. Presently he is preparing to take the exam to become a Certified Hospitality Accounting Executive (CHAE) and later on plans to take the Certified Management Accountant exam in order to add this certification to his credentials.
