Courses Offered and Course Description

HFT3718
Travel and Tourism Systems
The course provides a foundation for the concept of travel and tourism as a system. Study of the importance of interrelated activities of the components integral to international and domestic travel and tourism: destination planning and development, tour and travel distribution systems, transportation systems, attraction and entertainment systems and the hospitality industry.

HFT3735
Destinations and Cultures
Overview of worldwide tourist destinations. The course emphasizes how cultural, social, geographical and human aspects of places are critical to the attractiveness of a tourist destination.

HFT4509
Tourism Destination Marketing
This course is designed to help the students apply theories, principles, concepts and tools needed to successfully design a Tourism Marketing Plan for a given destination.

HFT4737
Managing Tourism Services
This course will introduce the student to the management issues relating to service and quality assurance in the global tourism and hospitality industry.  It includes an in-depth examination by the student of the concept of service and linkages of the most important functional areas of the tourism and hospitality firm.  It introduces the student to the concept of quality as a basic function of the tourism and hospitality management system and examines the sustainability of the service product.

HFT4945
Advanced Internship in Hospitality/Tourism Management
Structured hospitality practical training work experience involving training program and job rotations not previously performed. Ten week/300 hours minimum. Report and management project required. Prerequisites: Documented completion of 1,000 hospitality related work hours of which at least 500 hours must be completed while enrolled at FIU. Permission of the academic advisors/instructor required.

 

Biography

Professor Wang Miao got her bachelor degree in economics, master degree in management, and doctor degree in Management from Nankai University, Tianjn China.

Graduated from Nankai University in 1987, Professor Wang started her teaching career with Tianjin University of Commerce. She was promoted to be an instructor in 1994 and an associate professor in 1999 in TUC. Currently she is serving as the Tourism Department head in Business School in TUC.

Professor Wang has two types of study abroad experience with one in Europe and another one in US. In the year 2000, professor Wang was sent to Nyenrode University in Netherlands as a visiting scholar by China National Education Ministry. In 2005 she began to study in Florida International University and got her second M.S. degree in hospitality management in 2006.

She has some industry experiences such as part time working in Oriental Pearl Hotel in Shenzhen, volunteer of the Sobe Wine and Food Festival in Miami, part time working in Great Miami Convention and Visitor Bureau in 2005 to 2006.

The awards she got include Excellent faculty award of TUC in 2004,the tenth annual excellent paper award of TUC in 2005,and the first annual excellent paper award by Tianjin Municipal Education Committee in 2007.

Now Professor Wang is teaching in TUC-FIU cooperative Hospitality and Tourism Management School. The courses she offered include HFT3718 Travel and Tourism System, HFT3735 Destinations and Cultures, HFT4509 Tourism Destination Marketing, HFT4737 Managing Tourism Services, HFT4945 Advanced Internship in Hospitality/Tourism Management and etc..
