Courses Offered and Course Description

HFT 3423
Hospitality Information Technology

This course covers current computer applications in the Hospitality industry including information technology specific to hotel and restaurant accounting, finance, marketing, and management. These concepts are stressed through hands-on laboratory assignments with a Hotel Property Management System and a Restaurant POS/back-office as well as Microsoft Office. Mathematical financial functions will include the Present Value Function and the time value of money in the context of the Uniform System of Accounts for Hotels.

Travel & Tourism Technology

This course provides a foundation for understanding and mastery of travel industry specific technologies, examining  new technologies used in the travel industry which encourage unsurpassed quality, service and efficiency in today’s national and global travel industry. The course will cover theoretical and practical issues, as applied to businesses in general, and to the travel & tourism industry in particular.

Biography

Dale Gomez, M.S. MIS, is the Coordinator, Computer Systems Control and Webmaster at Florida International University, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Mr. Gomez has also taken the role of Online Learning Administrator, Adjunct Instructor of Hospitality Information Technology and Hospitality Publications.

Mr. Gomez's Information Technology experience spans over 10 years. He began his career working for the College of Engineering in 1997, where he designed and developed the college's distance learning program. He was then recruited by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management to help design and develop the executive distance program in 2002. Since then, Mr. Gomez has played an intricate role in ensuring that the school's technology backbone is up to today's standards.

Mr. Gomez is a graduate of Florida International University 's College of Business. Mr. Gomez earned his Master of Science in Management Information Systems in August 2006, and his Bachelor of Business Administration in August 2002.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Gomez currently resides in Miami, Florida .
