This course covers current computer applications in the Hospitality industry including information technology specific to hotel and restaurant accounting, finance, marketing, and management. These concepts are stressed through hands-on laboratory assignments with a Hotel Property Management System and a Restaurant POS/back-office as well as Microsoft Office. Mathematical financial functions will include the Present Value Function and the time value of money in the context of the Uniform System of Accounts for Hotels.

In today's global economy it is difficult, if not impossible, to manage a modern organization without at least some knowledge and understanding of information systems -- what they are, how they affect the organization and its employees, and how they can make businesses more competitive and efficient. Information systems have become essential for creating competitive firms, managing global corporations, and providing useful products and services to customers. This course provides an introduction to management information systems examining technical issues associated with these systems, and providing a understanding how to effectively utilize IS to enhance and improve daily management of a hospitality enterprise.

E-Commerce for the Hospitality Industry
The impact of e-commerce is far-reaching. The Internet took the world by surprise and has rapidly become the primary commerce and communications medium for virtually every industry. The benefits of the e-interface between sectors of the business environment (business-to-consumer, business-to-business, business-to-government) includes global distribution, lower cost of transactions, better customer service, quick comparison shopping, productivity gains, customization, and much more. This course examines the the principles of planning, designing, and operating e-commerce functions from technical and managerial perspectives.
Biography
Joseph Cilli, M.S. CS, is the Information Technology Administrator at Florida International University, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Mr. Cilli also serves in the role of
Adjunct Professor of Hospitality and Travel Information Technology.
Mr. Cilli's Information Technology experience spans over 15 years. He began his career working for the School of Computer Science at the University of Miami in 1992. He was then recruited by a not for profit, member association. Since then, Mr. Cilli has played an intricate role in ensuring that the school's technology backbone is up to today's standards.
Mr. Cilli is a graduate of the University of Miami.
He earned his Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 1995, and his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1994.
Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Mr. Cilli currently resides in
Pembroke Pines, Florida .
