HFT 3203
Fundamentals of Management in the Hospitality Industry

In this course, students will analyze and integrate the various disciplines of management in the hospitality industry—setting strategy, managing operations, marshaling resources, creating a positive work environment, building an organization, and developing people.

Biography

John D. Buschman received his M.S. in Hospitality Management from Florida International University and his B.A. in Travel and Tourism Management from the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management at Michigan State University.   He has additionally completed a Certificate Program in Hotel Marketing from the University of Glion, and attended Latin American Studies at the Universidad de Las Americas in Mexico.  Originally from Michigan, John has lived and worked all over the world, serving in executive positions in many leading tourism and hospitality operations, accumulating sales, marketing and operations experience on five continents.  John’s primary interests and experience have been in Exotic Destinations and Resort Sales & Marketing, as well as Incentive Travel, Meeting and Conference Management and Marketing. He is fluent in the Latin American versions of both Spanish and Portuguese languages.

John is currently teaching HFT 3203 - Fundamentals of Hospitality Management as an Adjunct Instructor, while pursuing advanced graduate studies and research at FIU’s UP campus.  His current research interests involve the application of Hospitality practices into the realm of Healthcare.  John is also active in the production of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival on behalf of FIU Hospitality Management.
